Seventh Slovenian LEGO Trial Truck meeting, Ljubljana -
September 7th 2012
After the initial bad luck with the weather and rescheduled competition, we finally gathered on a warm Friday afternoon that blew some fresh wind into the competition. We switched from the rocky terrain to a forest environment that gave us tree roots, leaves, grass and some rocks. The shadow under the trees was quite welcome for the audience too.
We decided to try the concept of two short tracks, which enabled the competition on one track and test drive on the other. The shorter tracks were more friendly for motors, batteries and receivers, which had some time to rest and cooldown between the tracks. We wanted to create two different track - a faster one and a challenging one, but it turned out that they were both technically quite demanding.
There were six contestants. The race opened bpavsic, so that others could see the traps and hard sections. Afterwards the others followed starting with Cwetqo, Subix, Rokstar, Stari89 and finally ending with Skrana and his son Janez.
The biggest surprise of the whole race was skrana and his son, who competed with two vehicles. One of them was a "tricycle" with tracks instead of the front wheel. The little truck worked pretty well, although the hill climbing was a big challenge.
Finally, we had the opportunity to test out the new Lego OOB set Crawler 4x4 that has proven to be a pretty good model, whose biggest weaknesses were the differentials. That was revealed when one of the wheels lost contact with the ground.
We were visited by a team from the newspaper Delo and RTV, who professionally documented the entire competition.
The following gallery shows highlights from the race.
